Boynton Beach…The City of Boynton Beach will rename Boat Club Park in honor of the late Harvey E. Oyer, Jr., known locally as “Mr. Boynton Beach.”

Mr. Oyer passed away in December 2010 at age 84.  His family has roots back to the early 1900’s, including an uncle who was one of the legendary Barefoot Mailmen.  Mr. Oyer lived his whole life inBoynton Beachand had many memories of raising his family here.  He and his children spent happy hours atBoatClubParkhaving cookouts and fishing from the banks of theIntracoastal Waterway.  According to his son, Harvey E. Oyer, III, the park was one of his father’s favorite spots.

In March of this year, the City Commission requested that the process to consider renaming various city facilities be initiated.  Staff adhered to stated criteria and forwarded the information to a review committee made up of various city advisory board members.  It was recently decided to rename the park for Mr. Oyer.  The City will have the sign at the entrance to the park changed in the upcoming weeks.
